Find Fisheries Data with the Data Access Wizard

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (FAR) Data Access Wizard helps you discover and access fisheries-related data. Data can be searched using keywords, geographic extent, and data providers. Most of the available data is in a spatial, or GIS, format and can be accessed in a variety of ways:

disc Data can be directly downloaded as-is to your desktop computer.

cart Multiple datasets can be added to your own 'data cart' and downloaded simultaneously. Data in your cart can be re-projected on-the-fly prior to download.

bolt Many datasets can also be viewed online via Web mapping applications or accessed dynamically by a desktop GIS client using ArcIMS or WMS MapServices.

All data in the FAR Data Access Wizard are fully documented with FGDC-compliant metadata and are free to the public.

Welcome!

Thank you for taking the time to visit and explore our site. If you have any questions or comments, please visit our About the Node page for contact information.

One of the more characteristic fish of the sea, the pufferfish, defends itself by sucking in water and expanding its size. The predators of the pufferfish are tricked into thinking that the pufferfish is much larger than it really is. For more information about this curious fish, visit National Geographic.

Do you want to share data with other researchers or resource managers? We are interested in working with new partners to share data of all types, formats, and geographic extents.

Maybe you have a web-based fisheries application that you would like to highlight in another location. We will work with you to integrate links to your application into this site.

Or, perhaps you have metadata or need help developing metadata that meets federal standards. We have trained metadata specialists who can help you create standard metadata for your fisheries data and add that to the NBII Metadata Clearinghouse.

Learn more about how to get involved, and how to contact us.
